Greg ElkoSeptember 30, 2009. A general membership meeting was held at the Marblehead Grille and Chowder House. The guest speaker for this luncheon was Greg Elko, Senior Associate with Langan Engineering and Environmental Services, Inc. Mr. Elko spoke about the proposed interchange at Main Street and Route 33. Elko's firm has been contracted to conduct the Point of Access Study that is required by PennDOT. This study has been completed and submitted to PennDOT who will have the study reviewed and issue an opinion on their acceptance of the concept. Once that is completed the detail engineering will will proceed and it is expected interchange will be completed towards the early part of 2012. This will be a privately funded project by the Charles Chrin Companies who own the majority of land in that area of the township.

During the luncheon the BIP welcomed new member Sue Trinchere who is opening the PHEONIX Rehabilitation & Health Services, Inc. facility in the Rosemont Shopping Center on William Penn Highway.

The BIP also welcomed new member Jeff Kicska who has a new sign shop in the 25th Street Shopping Center. The store is called "And The Sign Says".

The BIP wishes both Sue and Jeff luck in their new businesses.

June 24, 2009. At a mixer at the community center the BIP dedicated the newly constructed playground at the Community Center.  The playground equipment was donated to the township by the BIP and the benches, tables and fencing was donated by Mr. Clifton A. Morris.  The BIP thanks the Charles Chrin Company, Gray Connective, Palmer Nursery and the Palmer Public Works Department for their assistance in the construction of the playground area.  This playground adds another dimension to the community center in allowing children to enjoy playing outside.  Since the establishment of the BIP in 1976 the association has raised a substantial amount of money for community projects in the township with the first project being the Palmer Branch of the Easton Area Pubic Library to the latest this playground.

Scholarship recipientsJune 24, 2009. At the same event scholarships were awarded to three high school graduates.  They are Janel DeGeralamo a graduate of Notre Dame High School who will be furthering her education at Penn State University, Krissa Rizzolino a graduate of Easton Area High School who will be entering Millersville University and Taylor Prodes a graduate of Easton Area High School who will be going to Moravian College.  The officers and members of the BIP congratulated them for their past accomplishments and wished them well in their future endeavors.

Phil MitmanApril 29, 2009. A General Membership Business Luncheon was held with the featured speaker being Mr. Phil Mitman, President and CEO of the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corp. Also, with him was Mr. Robert Wendt who works in the business retention section of the LVEDC.

Mr. Mitman talked about the business development climate in the Valley under the current economic conditions. He mentioned several potential business which may be moving into the area without stating their names with a potential of 2,000 to 3,000 employees. Recently, there was a financial summit sponsored by LVEDC to discuss the financing of business ventures. Phil indicated that when he is in Harrisburg he has where the officials there feel that the Lehigh Valley is a model for the state on how they do business in attracting new businesses.

Bob WendtMr. Wendt talked about the retention of the businesses that we currently have in the Valley and the competition we have with the southern states. He also mentioned the need for government and the school districts to work with the business development community to help provide insensitive such as KOZ. He cited the recent failure of the Easton Area School District to grant the KOZ for the former Silk Mill.


February 25, 2009. At a General Membership luncheon the BIP installed the following officers and board of director members for 2009.  The officers include: J. Lee Boucher, President, Robert Blanchfield, President-Elect, Debra Young, Treasurer and Virginia Rickert, Recording Secretary.  The board of director members include: Past President Marsha Abraham, David Colver, Jeffrey Young, Robert Smith, Chad Palank, Karl Kline, Charles Roseberry, Brian Dillman, Michael Smull, and Michelle Webb.

The speaker at the luncheon was the Honorable Franklin S. Van Antwerpen.  Judge Van Antwerpen gave a very interesting and humorous talk about his experience beginning as the solicitor for Palmer Township through his various judicial positions to his current position as U.S. Court of Appeals Judge.

April 24, 2009. A Pride in Palmer award was presented in recognition of Innovative Sign & Graphics for using Palmer Township in their advertising.  In the picture Chad Palank, Chairman of the PIP committee presents the plaque to Paul Press, President of Innovative Sign & Graphic.

October 11, 2008. Retro Fitness is a full service fitness facility in a former movie theater at the 25th Street Shopping Center that held its grand opening and open house this date. Two members of the Board of Supervisors joined the ownership of the facility in the ribbon cutting. Also, Retro Fitness received a Pride in Palmer award for using Palmer Township in its advertising.

March 26, 2008. The March General Membership Luncheon was held at Marblehead Grille & Chowder House.  The Membership elected Brian Dillman, Margaret Dissinger and Charles Roseberry as new members of the Board of Directors.  This was a follow-up to the action taken at the January meeting where the membership voted to expand the number of members on the board.
During the meeting President Marsha Abraham introduced Spectrum of Floors as a new member.  This business is located on William Penn Highway in the township.  In the picture at the right, President Abraham presents their membership certificate to co-owner William Koch

The speaker for this meeting was Mr. John Conklin, Northampton County Administrator who introduced the new voting machine to the attendees.  Mr. Conklin talked about the process that was followed in choosing the new machine and believes that it is a cross between the manual machine of old and the new computerized machines.  He believes that this machine will be very user friendly.

Dave Colver gave an update of the township and introduced the new Director of Planning for Palmer Township, George Kinney.  George replaced Amamda Jensen who has left the township to form her own consulting business.  We welcome George and wish Amanda luck.

January 30, 2008. The first general membership meeting of the year brought a new slate of officers.  Pastor Laura Csellak installed the following: President – Marsha Abraham, President-Elect – J. Lee Boucher, Treasurer – Debra Young, Recording Secretary – Virginia Rickert, and Past President – Michelle Webb.  The new Board of Director members include: Karl Kline and Robert Blanchfield for a three year term, Jeffrey Young and Robert Smith for a two year term, and David Colver and Margaret Gable for a one year term.

 The membership voted to change By-Law Section 1. Number and Terms to read “There shall be twelve directors consisting of three officers and nine elected directors elected by the members in good standing for terms of three years.”  The three additional members will be brought to the general membership for election at the BIP’s March General Membership meeting.

 President Abraham presented Past President Webb with a president’s plaque on behalf of the membership in recognition of her service to the association during this past year.

Gregg DowtyThe guest speaker for this meeting was Dr. Gregg Dowty, Executive Director of The Children’s Home of Easton.  Dr. Dowty stated there are several types of housing at the Home.  Some for children needing a safe place for a night and others need it for a longer period of time as well as foster home care.  Group care is geared to independent living as they grow older.  They presently serve 175 residents but have room for 250.  For more information on the Home please visit their website at www.thechildrenshome.org.
