The Booster Award is presented for outstanding contributions to the Palmer Township community. It is made to the person who has exhibited outstanding service to others thus distinguishing Palmer Township through their contribution to their fellow man, business community or political environment.
This years Booster Award is presented to Stephanie Supinski, Branch Manager of the Palmer Memorial Library, a branch of the Easton Area Public Library.
In 1991 after her 3 children had entered school, Stephanie took a course at the local community college for women re-entering the job market. Based on her results showing she would do well in a library setting, she volunteered at the Palmer Branch in 1991. A year later she was hired to work at the Main Library at the circulation desk, later she entered NCC's Library Technical Assistant program and became an assistant to the reference librarian. Five years ago she became Manager of the Palmer Branch and has loved every minute of her new assignment.
In the last 5 years circulation at the Palmer Branch has risen from 32,000 in 2004 to 104,000 in 2008. Many new changes have taken place in the library itself such as a new circulation desk, additional staff has been hired and hours extended to 6 days a week.
Programs such as Development of Children Programs has grown significantly offering 6 story times throughout the year with average attendance of 75 weekly. There are also other story times as well as a Kindergarten Readiness session. Every summer there is a summer reading program and last year the program drew in over 400 children.
For the last 6 years our library has offered an Adult Book Group. Mother/Daughter Book Group and Young Adult Book group. New this year is a knitting and crocheting for charity group known as "So Other May Be Warm". This group is meeting weekly.
The Palmer Library's goal continues to remain a community library fulfilling the educational, recreational and informational needs of the community - thanks to the enthusiasm and foresight of Stephanie Supinski and her staff at the Palmer Branch of the Easton Area Public Library.
