The Community Service Award recognizes individuals and/or groups who by their service to others or contributions to the Palmer community help to distinguish Palmer as a caring community.

Howard Campbell is a long time Palmer Township resident who has given service to the residents of Palmer from June, 1967 until his planned retirement at the end of this year – over 41 years.  His employment was in the Public Works Department where he was made Foreman in 1983, Superintendent from 1990 to 2001 at which time he asked to be relieved of that position.  His request was granted and was then made Assistant Superintendent from 2001 until his retirement date.

Howard’s involvement in Palmer Township has not only been in his employment with the Public Works Department, where he was on call day and night in all kinds of weather, but also with the setting up and helping with the annual Community Weekend for ten years along with many other activities and celebrations that were planned.

His other civic involvement and certainly a most important one is that he has been a member of the Palmer Municipal Fire Department since 1972 and is now a Life Member.

Upon his retirement at the end of 2008 he and his wife Dawn will move to Indiana to be near their son and his family.  Born and raised in Palmer Township he will be greatly missed by his friends in Palmer Township.

We wish him well and are proud to award the Community Service Award to Howard C. Campbell.
