The Community Service Award recognizes individuals and/or groups who by their service to others or contributions to the Palmer community help to distinguish Palmer as a caring community.
The Palmer Lions has been in existence for 52 years and has supported a variety of projects that have been important to our community. The Lions are recognized worldwide for their service to the blind and visually impaired. Lions demonstrate their commitment to sight conservation through eyeglass recycling, sight partnerships and countless other sight services.
Throughout the history of the Lions within our own community, they assisted in the purchase of an ambulance in 1972, built the Palmer Lions Pool, the pavilion and storage barn at Briarcliff Park, and organized the Dip ‘n Dance to raise funds for their future projects. The pool was built as a community service, a need that was recognized within Palmer Township, and was run by the Lions for over 30 years before they donated it to the township. Each year, you can count on the Lions selling Christmas Trees at 5 points with the funds raised going to college scholarships to high school seniors who are furthering their education.
BIP is pleased to announce with the cooperation of the Palmer Lions Club, The Township of Palmer and the BIP, a joint effort to construct a new electronic information and welcome sign, which will be located at 25th & Northampton St. in the spring of 2008. We recognize and appreciate their ongoing contributions to the Palmer Community.
Although at their highest membership, the Palmer Lions were 45 strong, the current membership is approximately 20 hard working, dedicated individuals. It is with pride that BIP recognizes that hard work and dedication with our Community Service Award.

Jack Cook, President of the Lions Club accepts the award from Jerry Kemmerer.
