The Civic Trust Award is given to recognize significant physical improvement to existing properties as well as new construction within Palmer Township.

Richards Drive-In is one of the most distinguished buildings in Palmer Township.  Its’ bright pink color stands out, but that is not the attraction that brings us back there time and again.  Purchased in 1966 by brother-in-laws Nick Papageorgiou and Ted Kastrinakis, the family run business and the relationship they have with their patrons is hard to find anywhere else.   It is that tradition that brings generations of parents taking their children for a quick meal before or after practice or an ice cream reward for a good game.

In the mid 1970’s, Nick’s brother Jim bought into the business.  Close to that time is when their children were coming of age to work behind the counter.  Nick’s daughters, Maria and Toni, Ted’s daughters, Eve and Cathy, and Jim’s sons, Angelo and Billy all worked at Richards.  In fact, after Nick and Teddy retired in 1998, Maria and Eve have taken over in their father’s footsteps.

This past year, the building was repainted, the parking lot paved and now picnic tables with umbrella’s and flower pots adorn the front of the building.  It is a welcoming addition and provides seating for outdoor dining.

The changes to their building and grounds are improvements to Palmer Township and are recognized with the Civic Trust Award.
